I was lucky enough to have been a Wildcard at the first heat of Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year 2025 at Hampton Court Palace. For those of you who aren't familiar with with Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year there are 6 heats at different places. In each heat there are 8 main ‘Pod’ artists and 50 Wildcard artists competing at each heat. One Pod artist will be chosen to go forward in the competition and one wildcard artist is chosen from each of the six heats, one of who will go on to the semi final. To enter I submitted 3 paintings, one main submission and two others to show my style of work. From these I was offered a place as a Wildcard entry. I chose to go to the Hampton Court Palace in June last year on an absolutely sweltering summers day. But armed with a hat and an umbrella for shade, plenty of sun cream and of course my easel and paints, I had a fabulous and truly memorable day painting alongside a lot of very talented artists. The Hampton Court heat has already been televised and I did make a brief appearance!
